Chapel Club: Surfacing

Things are certainly looking up for this lot. Chapel Club are getting off to the best of starts in 2011 with the long-delayed release of ‘Surfacing’ (out via Polydor on January 17th). Why long-delayed?, you ask. Well, the chorus uses lyrics from ‘Dream A Little Dream Of Me’, and there were copyright issues, so, meant to be the band’s debut single (an accolade that was instead given to ‘O Maybe I’), it’s only now seeing the light of day.

I feel its release couldn’t have been timed better, though: it acts as the perfect appetite-whetter for the release of their debut album, ‘Palace’ which is, er, surfacing on January 31st (details below). The quintet have delivered a rousing four minutes that captures them at their accomplished best. On the evidence of this incredibly tight-sounding song, 2011 deserves to be their year. [GO’M]
