Strange Names: Demons
It’s only a couple of years since I stopped imagining the ghost of Queen Victoria standing at the end of my bed. This ridiculous near-hallucination was my ‘demon’, so to speak. Nowadays it’s Brooklyn beer and local takeaway menus. For most normal people, it’s got something to do with love. And the language on Strange Names’ ‘Demons’ (“let’s get vulnerable, physical, in control, mess around” etc.) suggests the Minneapolis group suffer from such strains. An almost 90s style of production lends itself to an emotion-struck pop song, equipped with a very much chantable mantra of “someone save me from my demons.” More comforting than the sight of Good Queen Bess.
