Spectral Park: The Thief’s Journal

Initially, you could only imagine ‘L’appel du Vide’, the first work of Luke Donovan, to be a slight shot in the dark. But in a set of recordings exposed just in time for Christmas, it’s clear that this breathtaking fusion of glam rock and garage punk runs true throughout the production of all of his tracks. You can compare ‘The Thief’s Journal’s dark, cinematic quality to Dirty Beaches’ ‘Badlands’ album, although there’s more chance of Spectral Park’s future works gaining serious cult status rather than Alex Zhang Hungtai’s critical acclaim. Regardless of its future potential, this one’s a magnificent, hard-hitting effort.
