The Soft: Venus Breath

Seeing Factory Floor producing such a grand, full body of work in the form of ‘Two Different Ways’, wasn’t the biggest of surprises. It seemed like the sensible conclusion to a huge build up of buzz for their ear-splitting live shows and reputation for doing something daring and different.  
The Soft aren’t exactly the sonic equivalent of the former, but they’re equally capable of producing something of mindblowing ambition, on evidence of ‘Venus Breath’. 
Over seven minutes long, the centrepiece of their new EP bubbles up from aching vocal samples into a cacophonous coming together of ghostly background sounds and a brash and incessant drum patterns. With roots in 90s house - and this is where the FF comparison comes into play - its climactic ending is a dramatic, hands-in-the-air work of art.
