Magic City: Your Eyes
1 minute into ‘Your Eyes” sweet sing-a-long opening and there’s a sudden break in routine; a fist full of harsh, thrashing guitars all colliding with each other to mark the beginning of the chorus. It’s unexpected: this song lulls you into believing you’re hearing a reinterpretation of Real Estate’s dreamy sedation and certainly, the song’s closing half is swarmed by gentle vocal harmonies and one delightful guitar solo. But there’s so much in the initial, momentous punch of clattering instruments, that unanticipated flick of a switch. It’s the bold step up from cheery noise pop to grand, original rock music.
