Quick Fix: Grinderman - Grinderman 2

Words: James Dyke
Nick Cave’s latest art-work comes once again in the form of music. ‘Grinderman 2’ is the second album from the Australian garage rockers, made up of ex-Bad Seeds. ‘Grinderman 2’ is a spiky affair, surprisingly so from a bunch of 50-year-olds, although this is Nick Cave we’re talking about; he usually doesn’t fit into the ‘norm’. ‘Grinderman 2’ is an angry, incredibly sex-fuelled record, which wouldn’t go amiss in a teenager’s CD Player. ‘Mickey Mouse And The Goodbye Man’ is a brilliant opener, and sets the tone for the rest of the album, tracks such as ‘When My Baby Comes’ feature a little more than most garage bands, breaking up the album nicely. ‘Evil’ is just psychadelic Cave at his best. This is unlikely to be the record on everyone’s lips this year, but it’s definitely as good as any. Original, fresh and full of spunk.
