mpfree: SOARS - Throw Yourself Apart

words: Jamie Milton

Sometimes three seconds of a song is more than enough of an indication as to whether you’ll like the piece as a whole. Such is the eerie, grand production on SOARS’ Throw Yourself Apart’, that it simply states to me in an instant that this is my kind of thing. I’m a sucker for atmosphere and this song prioritises just that.

The band are from Pennsylvania, they’re about to release their debut album, details of which can be found here. It’s the closing twenty seconds of this that intrigues me the most. Suddenly, out of the blue, in comes a sharp, disjointed drum pattern and a turn of pace. It suggest that imminent is another song, inferring also that this debut album of theirs will take pride in cohesiveness and flow. All the more reason to keep an eye out for it…
