patten: & our wild paths intersect
If you steer backwards and flick through the coverage that met Patten before his debut release on No Pain In Pop, results will be few and far between. The first Hypemachine entry is from NPIP itself, thereafter interest only began to show itself up upon the album announcement. Still, the warped, off-beat ‘Blush Mosaic’ was the only indication of said record, albeit an impressive one.
You get the sense that Patten hasn’t even arrived yet. Reviews (all hugely positive) are trickling in, but word of mouth and another release is likely to cement this producer as something of a genius. Genius. It’s a word I rarely use - perhaps only when slightly drunk and watching football - but GLAQJO XAACSSO hints at someone who exists in a separate sphere to all his contemporaries. ‘& our wild paths intersect’ is perhaps the easiest of inductions, gently steering the newcomer to the more challenging, singular strain of this guy’s work.
‘GLAQJO XAACSSO’ is out now on No Pain In Pop
