It’s just intimidating: The level at which these guys work at. In this intimate, sweltering setting, Ishmael Butler accentuates the intricacies of ‘Black Up”s songs. The camera captures every jolt of the hi-hat; every illuminating light from the Roland Sampler. A song like ‘The King’s new clothes were made by his own hands’ might sound minimal on record, but this session version, all the more darker than its usual self, also manages to showcase the sheer expanse of work put into constructing the track.  [JM]
